ADELAIDEINTERIOR PAINTERSPlan my repaint

BEFORE THE FIRST COAT

A little preparation. A smoother repaint.

Clear responsibilities before the work starts. The best preparation checklist is one you and the chosen painter have both agreed to.

Plan my repaint

THE USEFUL ANSWER

Before interior painting starts, confirm the room list, colours, access and furniture responsibilities. Remove personal valuables and agree who moves heavy items, protects flooring and handles fittings. Discuss pets, ventilation and safe access directly with the contractor.

01 / THE DETAILS

Before the quote.

Gather a room list, approximate dimensions, photographs and any floor plan. Photograph damage and difficult access as well as the neat parts of the room.

Describe the property’s age and any known coating or moisture issues. If the condition is uncertain, ask for inspection and assessment before preparation methods are agreed.

02 / THE DETAILS

Before the start date.

Confirm colours, products and sheens. Agree keys, parking, working hours, storage and which rooms can remain in use.

Remove valuables, personal items and easily moved furnishings. Do not disconnect electrical fittings yourself; agree responsibility for any work needing an appropriate trade.

  • Confirm the included rooms and surfaces
  • Agree furniture, curtains and fitting responsibilities
  • Plan pets and household access
  • Resolve any required building or moisture repairs
  • Keep the written quote and colour schedule available

03 / THE DETAILS

During the work.

Keep changes in writing. If a new colour, extra room or hidden repair changes the scope, agree the variation and its cost before the work proceeds.

Ask the contractor about drying, ventilation and room access for the specific products. Avoid guessing when a surface can be handled or cleaned.

04 / THE DETAILS

At the final walkthrough.

Walk through each room against the agreed scope. Discuss touch-ups, cleanup, waste removal and hardware refitting. Record any outstanding items and an agreed completion plan.

Keep product details, colours, maintenance instructions and written warranty terms. These are more useful later than a colour name alone.

Questions to ask before you start.

Can I stay home during an interior repaint?

Sometimes, if the painter can stage the work and maintain safe access. Discuss room availability, furniture, pets, ventilation and the paint manufacturer’s reoccupation guidance before agreeing the sequence.

How long will my interior painting take?

The schedule depends on the room count, repairs, access, number of coats and product drying requirements. Ask for a room-by-room programme, including preparation, drying time, touch-ups and the final walkthrough.
